Crystal Palace News Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 6-11 July 2010
Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is a fount of inspiration, says CPF garden writer Gay Nightingale. Don't miss the wonderful plants and flowers in the Plant Heritage Marquee, the Floral Marquee, and elsewhere; or the exciting foods and crafts in the Country Living Magazine Pavilion - where there is something for everyone, from curry sauces to braided rugs. Parties of children with their teachers thread through the Stands. Legoland pirates, islands, and bright honey bees, help to capture attention - as do leaflets and giveaways. Maybe this scene is a little like the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace would have appeared in its heyday. Stands to linger at are numerous. Streptocarpus plants on Dibleys were tempting and the rooted leaf cuttings an economical way to start a collection. Excellent aquatics, houseplants, roses, fuchsias, orchids, bulbs - indeed nearly all types of plant can be found at the Show. Readers raised near the Crystal Palace Park will appreciate the tree species on the North of England Bonsai stand. (World class trees, shrubs, climbers and herbaceous plants can also be found at www.hillier.co.uk) Roses are always popular. A pale pink variety with deep rose centre 'Beatrix Potter' adorns the cover of the Peter Beales 2010 catalogue. The lovely David Austin Roses catalogue is also book-like and available at the Show or from www.davidaustinroses.com These and fabulous new roses can be found in the Rose Festival Marquee. For 40 different varieties of herbs, salads, vegetables and fruit head to the 5 A DAY Garden by garden tools and equipment firm Burgon & Ball. Also visit www.%adaygarden.com The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is open all this week 6-11 July 2010.
