History research FAQ's

Please note: There very few known lists of employees or workers connected with the Crystal Palace for any time or period 1851 - 1936.

Some 2,617 employees in the Great Exhibition 1851 are listed in the For Services Medal section in the book 'Recipients of Official Crystal Palace Medals' (see Shop Page).

A few (very few) and mainly first names appear in the book 'English hearts and English hands, or, The railway and the trenches' by Catherine Marsh and in our publication 'Frightful accident at the Crystal Palace, Sydenham - Monday 15th August 1853'.

There are presently no other lists, indexes, databases, payrolls, etc known.

For all UK based enquiries always include a contact telephone number - a speedy response cannot be assured if not provided. Also remember that all persons involved in the Crystal Palace Foundation are volunteers and research enquiries often take much of our own time and effort so if you are requesting a research enquiry please consider visiting the Donations Page on the Shop link.
