On the 14 June 1979, a group of enthusiasts met in a room above Eric's Barber Shop, 84 Anerley Road, London, SE19 to discuss the future of their small group known as the Crystal Palace Exhibition Committee.

It was agreed after much discussion that an organisation would be formed to be known as the Crystal Palace Foundation. The organisation was to be dedicated to preserving the history of the Crystal Palace. 

The Foundation was formally launched in the Conference Room of the National Sports Centre on 20 July 1979 and one of the main aims of the fledgling organisation was to create a museum on the site.

This was achieved on the 17 June 1990 when the Crystal Palace Museum opened.
